King Salman, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, has issued a royal decree appointing four new imams to lead prayers at Islam’s holiest sites.
The announcement was made by Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, the head of the Presidency for Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.
The decree names Sheikh Badr Al-Turki and Sheikh Al-Waleed Al-Shamsan as new imams of the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Muhammad Barhaji and Sheikh Abdullah Al-Qarafi have been appointed as imams at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.

This is a welcome step and pilgrims will get an opportunity to hear different Qirats . It should also be ensured that some Imams are appointed from other countries also like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc, as they are no less competent than those from Saudi. This will provide variety as pilgrims come from different countries and they will get elated to hear the Imams from their countries at the great Mosque. Jazakallah
Masha Allah
