Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron Closed by Israel

As Wafa news agency reported, the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron has been closed by the Israeli occupation forces, which is in the West Bank city of Hebron, the consecutive day due to “Rosh Hashanah”; the Jewish Holiday.

Again, the Muslim worshipers were stopped from visiting the mosque concerning the daily prayers.

The mosque’s director pointed out the latest version of the human rights conventions of Israel that guarantee religious freedom. Wafa stated that Sheikh Hifthi Abu Sneineh shared that on Saturday night the authorities closed the mosque to make a path for the illegal settlers.

The Ibrahimi mosque s situated in the Old City of Hebron which the Jews believe as the Cave of the Patriarchs. In 2017, it has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage.

From early March, the mosque was closed due to the pandemic. Along with the church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, it resumed in May.

This mosque is said to be the burial area of Prophet Issac, Jacob, and Ibrahim and their respected wives i.e. sacred to both; the Jews and Muslims. It is a site of tension for decades because of the Israeli occupation authorities that took over the central prayer hall to be followed by illegal settlers.

One of them shot and killed 29 Muslim people during their prayer in February 1994. By wearing the Israeli defense forces uniform. Baruch Goldstein used his army to have guns to roam around and kill the people. The survivors of his attack attempt tortured him to death. The grave of Goldstein is in a nearby illegal area of Kiryat Arba that became a shrine for these settlers.

A minimum of 200,000 Palestinians resides in Hebron, comparing with a few hundred of the illegal settlers who are fully armed and also being protected by Israeli army group.
