As Muslims around the world observe the lunar calendar, this month brings us to the White Days (Ayaamul Beedh) of Jumada Al-Awwal, an important time as per the Sunnah of fasting on these specific days.

This November, the White Days will take place on the following dates:

  • Friday, November 15th – 13th of Jumada Al-Awwal
  • Saturday, November 16th – 14th of Jumada Al-Awwal
  • Sunday, November 17th – 15th of Jumada Al-Awwal

What Are the White Days (Ayaamul Beedh)?

The White Days, known in Arabic as Ayaamul Beedh, occur each lunar month on the 13th, 14th, and 15th days. They are called the “White Days” because these are the days during which the moon is full and illuminates the night sky.

Fasting on these three days is a well-regarded Sunnah, a recommended act in Islam, which Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) practiced and encouraged for its many spiritual and physical benefits.

hadith About the white days

Significance of Fasting on the White Days

Fasting on the White Days is considered highly meritorious. According to narrations, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) recommended fasting three days each lunar month, which some scholars have interpreted as including the White Days. The Prophet said:

“Fasting three days every month is like fasting for a lifetime, and Ayaamul Beedh are the 13th, 14th, and 15th.” (Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)

May Allah accept the fasts and prayers of all those observing the White Days, and may this Jumada Al-Awwal bring blessings, peace, and fulfillment to all.
