Friday Sermons and Prayers Shorten During Hajj 2025 Due to Extreme Heat

Facing daytime temperatures soaring above 45°C, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais has instructed all imams at Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi to limit Friday sermons and Jumu‘ah prayers to no more than 15 minutes, and to reduce the interval between Adhan and Iqamah between 5 and 10 minutes.

With Hajj well under way and heat indexes in Makkah, Mina, and Arafat climbing beyond 50 °C, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, President of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, has issued a directive to streamline Friday congregational worship.

Under his guidance:

• Friday sermons and Jumuah prayers must conclude within 15 minutes.
• The gap between the Adhan (call to prayer) and Iqamah (second call indicating the prayer is about to begin) is to be shortened between 5 and 10 minutes.

This step complements other heat-relief efforts: distribution of cold Zamzam water and umbrellas, installation of misting fans, shaded waiting areas, and enhanced medical teams on standby throughout the holy sites.

Saudi authorities continue to monitor weather forecasts closely and stand ready to introduce further measures should temperatures rise.
