Maldives Announces Public Holidays for the Last 10 Days of Ramadan

Malé: Starting next year, the government will declare the final 10 days of the fasting month of Ramadan as official holidays.

After a meeting between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and his Cabinet of Ministers, the announcement was made during a press conference held by the President’s Office on Sunday.

Mohamed Shaheeb, the Chief Spokesperson, confirmed the President’s decision to declare the final 10 days of Ramadan as official government holidays starting in 2024.

This conclusion was the result of discussions surrounding a document presented by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs during the cabinet session held on Sunday.

The intention behind this action was to promote Islamic principles within the community and encourage increased participation in religious practices among the public.

It will also enable citizens to prioritize their religious practices during the sacred month.

The decision aligns with one of the president’s commitments made during their term.
