Mosque Bani Haram and The Story of Sheep Sacrifice

Mosque Bani Haram is located where the people of Bani Haram tribe used to live, at that time, this mosque was nearby so it was named Masjid Bani Haram. This mosque was the place where Muslims had set up their camps as they were preparing for the Battle of Trench.

Jabir (RA), a companion of Prophet Muhammad PBUH had a house at this place. During the Battle of Trench also known as Khandaq, a very incredible event occurred at Jabir (RA)’s house.

Prophet Muhammad PBUH was hungry and Jabir (RA) saw it

Battle of the trench was one of the difficult battles Muslims had ever fought, they had to dig a huge trench around them. Many hardworking Muslims used to get very tired but never complained. Jabir RA saw Prophet Muhammad PBUH was hungry, Jabir RA went to his wife and asked her to prepare food.

His wife told him that they have a small sheep as well as some barley which was the only food left with them. Jabir RA asked his wife to cook the sheep and make bread from the barley she has in her house.

Jabir RA invited Prophet Muhammad PBUH with his 10 more companions

On the evening of the next day when Muslims were leaving the trench, its light became very dim for the people to work, Jabir RA looked for Prophet Muhammad PBUH. He spotted Prophet Muhammad PBUH were also leaving the trench. Jabir RA went to him PBUH and invited him for Dinner.

Jabir RA wanted to only invite Prophet Muhammad PBUH so he PBUH can eat well, as Jabir RA had a very limited meal in his house, so he just invited Prophet PBUH. In reply to this, Prophet Muhammad PBUH held Jabir RA’s hand and asked him to invite all other companions to his house for Dinner.

Jabir RA didn’t worry

Jabir RA did not get worried, not even for a second, he recited a verse which means “We are from Allah and to whom we will return.”, As Jabir RA was leaving for his home to host the dinner for Prophet Muhammad PBUH and his companions, he was called by Muhammad Prophet PBUH, and he instructed him not to light the fire or bake bread until he (Prophet Muhammad PBUH) arrives.

At the dinner time, when Prophet PBUH arrived and took some meat out and bread and served it to 10 of his companions. Prophet Muhammad PBUH kept the oven and the pot covered. When those ten companions had eaten, then the next ten came and ate. Amazingly the people kept coming in 10 and would still eat but the food was there for even more ten people to eat.

Food was still there until all of them had eaten. When Prophet Muhammad PBUH uncovered the over and the pot, there was still mutton and bread let. So Prophet Muhammad PBUH asked Jabir RA to eat and distribute it in the remaining people who are hungry. Subhan Allah! a small sheep and just a small measure of barely had satisfied hunger of many!
