BALI, Indonesia — Widely known for his Quranic lectures and interfaith debates, Dr. Zakir Naik traded the pulpit for adventure on Thursday by completing a 430-foot bungee jump off a coastal platform in Bali.
The 59-year-old religious scholar shared footage of the daring leap on his official X account, delighting followers accustomed to his calm, academic demeanor.
Donned in casual attire and secured by a bright red cord, Dr. Naik plunged toward the blue waters below before rebounding skyward.
He later posted images of himself grinning at the cliff’s edge, preparing for both cliff jumping and an extreme water slide at the same beach resort.
This latest stunt marks his second major foray into high-adrenaline sports. During a 2024 visit to Uganda, Dr. Naik successfully completed a 165-foot bungee descent, prompting fans to follow his growing passion for adventure.
Organizers said the Bali activities were arranged at the scholar’s request to experience local thrill-seekers’ attractions firsthand.
“Dr. Naik wanted to challenge himself physically and encourage others to step outside their comfort zones,” said an event coordinator.
While some observers praised his willingness to embrace new experiences, others expressed surprise at seeing such a prominent religious figure in extreme sports.
Dr. Naik responded in a subsequent post, “Life is a test of both mind and body. Grateful for the chance to conquer my fears.”
The scholar remains in Indonesia through the weekend, balancing his itinerary between leisure, community outreach, and scheduled lectures in Jakarta.
