Saudi Arabia’s national carrier has launched “The Coolest Ihram” a revolutionary high-tech pilgrimage garment designed to cool wearers during Hajj and Umrah rituals.
The innovative clothing, developed in partnership with branding firm Landor and cooling fabric specialist brrr®, represents the first major technological advancement in Islamic pilgrimage attire.

The Ihram contains patented cooling minerals, active wicking, and rapid-drying properties to create a personal cooling effect, lowering skin temperature by 1-2 degrees Celsius depending on environmental conditions.
The technical fabric provides UPF 50+ sun protection while maintaining complete compliance with ihram requirements for both male and female pilgrims.
Saudia VP Marketing Essam Akhonbay stated the innovation reflects the airline’s commitment to enhancing the pilgrim experience. “Our goal is to ensure comfort and focus on what truly matters during their journey,” Akhonbay said, emphasizing the carrier’s role as the leading Hajj and Umrah transportation provider.

The cooling ihram debuted at Arabian Travel Market 2025 in Dubai, positioning Saudia at the forefront of religious tourism innovation.
Mary-Cathryn Kolb, CEO of brrr®, described the project as a groundbreaking opportunity to demonstrate fabric performance during life-changing spiritual journeys.

The garment will become available to Saudia passengers in June 2025, with detailed distribution plans to be announced shortly.
