Saudi Arabia Establishes Prayer Area for Elderly Women in Masjid Al-Haram

MAKKAH – The purpose of this facility is to provide convenience and comfort to those who come to worship, allowing them to access services with ease.

At the Grand Mosque, the most sacred site in Islam located in Saudi city Makkah, a special area of prayer has been set aside for elderly women as part of an improvement of the services offered to worshippers, according to a mosque official.

Where is the praying area for Elderly women in Masjid al-Haram?

The Grand Mosque and the Prophet Mohammed’s Mosque’s General Presidency for Affairs announced the provision of a prayer area on the ground floor, situated next to Gate No 88, with all essential facilities included.

Abeer bit Mohammad, deputy chief of the presidency for women’s social and humanitarian services, inaugurated the building with the intention to make it easier for elderly female worshippers to access services with comfort.

The Grand Mosque has taken a step towards improving the services available to its worshippers by assigning a separate area for elderly women to pray, she noted.

At the event’s commencement, worshippers in the prayer area were presented with food, Zamzam water, and copies of the Quran.

The Grand Mosque administrators have set up specific areas of worship for individuals with physical disabilities and have supplied them with all the necessary services to guarantee their comfort and safety, such as those for the hearing or visually impaired.

Throughout the year, a great number of Muslims from various places come to the Grand Mosque in Saudi Arabia, where the Holy Kaaba is located.

Last September, Saudi Arabia took a major stride in the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) at the Grand Mosque by introducing robots that have the capability to recite the Holy Quran and give sermons to those who come to worship.

Users can get the services of the robots by downloading barcodes to their smartphones, or they can use the robots by pressing commands to acquire data on prayer imams, muezzins, and weekly schedules, including the names of the clerics who are delivering the Friday sermon.

Recently, the Grand Mosque has seen the deployment of robots to fulfil various tasks such as issuing fatwas (religious edicts), sterilising, and cleaning the roof of the Holy Kaaba.
