The new Jamia Masjid Usman Ghani Mosque in Brierfield will replace the current small red brick building on Stanley Street.
The new mosque will include 12 parking spaces, with five underground spaces accessible from Arthur Street, along with landscaping work.
Pendle Council recommended specific window types to prevent noise disturbance to nearby homes. Previous planning permissions for the site had expired, but this new plan has been approved.
An agent’s report for the Brierfield mosque noted that the Islamic center has been operating since around 2000. The site is a popular community facility for adults and children, run by local volunteers and funded by community donations.
The local Muslim community has been settled in this area for the last three to four generations, and the existing building was originally a gospel mission Pentecostal church.
The new mosque will feature a larger prayer hall with a second floor, primarily used for Friday midday prayers when attendance is highest. At other times, the space will serve multiple purposes, including meetings.
