Haramain High Speed Train To Transport Over 625,000 Passengers During Ramadan 2022

As reported by Saudi Gazette, Haramain High-Speed Train will operate 50 services per day during Ramadan. This new policy was implemented to carry a total of more than 625,000 both domestic passengers and foreign passengers who came from outside Saudi to perform pilgrimage during the holy month.

The Haramain High-Speed Railway (HHR) is a train service that connects the two holy cities of Makkah and Madinah with stops at King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), Jeddah airport and the centre of Jeddah.

According to an official source at Haramain Railway, the service will cross the Makkah-Madinah route and back, passing through Sulaymaniyah Central Station, Jeddah and KAEC station in Rabigh.

In addition, the authorities will also provide services between King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah, to Makkah and Madinah with still passing through King Abdullah Economic City.

The same source further explained that over the past few months, the Haramain Train service faced a 35 per cent increase in demand.

The sources predicted that the number of services will double if these high-speed train services continue to witness steady growth during the month of Ramadan. This prediction will be very likely to occur considering a large number of pilgrims from around the world will come to visit the Kingdom to perform Umrah or lesser pilgrimages at the Al-Haram Mosque and visits to the Prophet’s Mosque during the holy month as Saudi authorities gradually eased coronavirus-related restrictions.

In 2021, the Haramain High-Speed Railway (HHR) resumed operation after being out of operation for more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the same year, the Chairman of the Public Transportation Authority (PTA) Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih said that HHR is fully ready to operate to serve pilgrims during the Hajj and Umrah seasons by continuing to follow precautionary measures against the coronavirus.
