1,000+ Pakistani Doctors Set To Volunteer In Gaza

KARACHI – NGOs are in contact with relief agencies in Turkey and Egypt to send aid and health care staff to Gaza.

As the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, several NGOs, Saylani Welfare, Baitussalam Trust, and Al Khidmat Foundation have taken the lead in rallying healthcare workers to support the affectees in Palestine. More than 1000 Pakistani healthcare staff including 400 women have demonstrated their Humanitarian solidarity by agreeing to volunteer in Gaza.

As Gaza endures devastating attacks, Dr Zahid Latif, the Chairperson of the Al Khidmat Foundation stressed the urgent need to provide healthcare essentials and staff in Gaza. He further appreciated the ones volunteering for Gaza and highlighted that a significant portion of the healthcare volunteers comprises female medical gynecologists, surgeons, and critical experts.

Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) and Pakistan Medical Association have reported that hundreds of paramedical staff and professionals have registered and are willing to travel to Gaza if they are allowed to do so.

This remarkable initiative has garnered widespread appreciation underscoring the welfare’s commitment to supplying essentials and helping Palestinian brothers and sisters.

The call for healthcare workers arose following reports that indicate over 18,000 Gazans require medical treatment in critical condition. 

However, the NGOs are facing obstacles due to the absence of Israel and Pakistan diplomatic relations. To overcome this hurdle they are now contacting the relief agencies in Egypt and Turkey to facilitate the deployment of the medical professionals and relief aid. Moreover, Dr Latif has also reached out to the World Health Organisation in Islamabad and the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office in Cairo to inform them of Pakistan’s willingness to serve the affected individuals in the Gaza Strip.

In the light of continuous Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, essential medical aid is also being provided through the National Disaster Management Authority. 

As the situation in Gaza remains dire, the Pro Palestinians call out for the need for an immediate ceasefire and hope that peace is restored in the city. In these challenging times, Gazans look for even the smallest act of kindness that can save them and their families from these devastating airstrikes.
