KARACHI – Scrapfest is an LBGTQ event from Canada that is now taking place in the biggest city of Pakistan on February 4th in Karachi
Urvah Khan, a Canadian-Pakistani musician hosting the festival, returned to Pakistan in 2017.
An old video on Urvah Khan’s YouTube video confirms that Scrapfeset is the first female organized LBGTQ2-friendly rock festival. And this year, this event features “trans and underground performers.”
The German Consulate in Karachi has co-funded this event, a German consular also attended the event, although the consular was later suspended based on the harassment allegation.
Online reactions to the festival have been strong, with many netizens condemning the event for promoting LGBTQ values in Pakistan and demanding that such events be banned as they conflict with Islamic principles.
