605 prisoners memorize Holy Quran in Dubai

In the last two years, 605 prisoners have memorized the Holy Quran in Dubai, the commercial capital of the United Arab Emirates.

In 2021, 1,228 detainees were employed in educational, religious, sports, and professional programs in the General Department of the Dubai Police’s Punishment and Correctional Institutions.

The educational and training activities of the prisoners consist of four sections: Department of Educational Programs, Department of Religious Rituals, Department of Sports Activities, and Department of Vocational Training. Prisoners are encouraged to learn and recite the Holy Quran. Among them, 605 prisoners have memorized the Holy Quran in the last two years.

Prisoners complete their education at various academic levels in collaboration with the Dubai Educational Region and local and international colleges, and the library is provided with the latest versions of all the necessary books. The Department of Educational Programs offers a variety of courses and training programs for inmates, such as community-based enterprise art courses, graphic design, filmmaking, English language, Chinese language, Yanger management, and creativity courses.

Last year, about 170 prisoners completed science courses, and 191 benefited from educational courses.

Maj. Gen. Ali al-Shamali, director of the General Department of the Dubai Police’s Punishment and Correctional Institution, said the program was aimed at developing and rehabilitating prisoners’ skills and abilities and strengthening their religious beliefs.

The programs also address a variety of psychological and psychological problems and help remove barriers to fear and conflict after the release of prisoners.

They also aim to make it easier for prisoners to reorganize in mainstream society, al-Shamali added.

In addition to martial arts courses, including Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, and Karate, the department organizes year-round tournaments and sports events in a variety of fields, including football, handball, and volleyball tournaments.

In addition, the prisoners completed the 50 Million Walking Challenge as part of the 22-day fitness challenge launched by the Dubai Police.

Apart from these, as a punitive and corrective measure, the general department has introduced various courses for prisoners in 3D animation, organic farming, newspaper comics, motor mechanics, graphic design, gardening, landscape design, laser cutting, engraving techniques, and mask making.
