A US Air Force serviceman sets himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy.
Aaron Bushnell met his fate as he burned himself in a brutal fire on Sunday at the Israeli embassy in Washington. The individual was identified as a member of the US Air Forces.
Before his actions, he filmed a video saying that he was not involved in the massacre of Gazans and showed solidarity with Palestine.
The incident occurred at 1 a.m. when Bushnell poured flammable liquid on himself and shouted to Free Palestine several times. He then fell to the ground and the fire broke out.
As per reports received from the Israeli media, Bushnell died of severe injuries after he was taken to the hospital in a very critical condition. As soon as the incident occurred, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and the United States Secret Service took action immediately along with the firefighters to extinguish the fire.
As per the Israeli Embassy neither anyone from the staff was harmed nor any other individual was endangered. When the incident occurred, the active airman on duty was Rose Riley.
In addition, the circumstances and the causes of this incident are being investigated by several organizations. These include the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. However, the release of an official statement is yet to be awaited.
This is the first case of self-removal of an Israeli diplomatic mission in the United States in the last three months.
In December, a person set fire to the Israeli consulate in Atlanta while holding a Palestinian flag. Police said it was likely a political protest. The incidents came amid a brutal war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, which began in October.
However, the response of the Israeli army was severe airstrikes and ground operations in Gaza along with the killing of children and the bombing of hospitals as per Gaza’s Health Ministry. The horrific war has been condemned by the International Community which has called for a ceasefire.
