The capacity of the place where Sa'i is performed at the Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque of Makkah) is increased to 118,000 pilgrims per hour. The place is also known as Al Mas'aa.

## **What is Al-Mas'aa?**

People perform Sa'i by taking seven circles from Safa to Marwa, and the space between Safa and Marwa is called al-Mas'aa.

Al-Mas'aa is 40 meters wide and 394 meters long, total distance a pilgrim covers in the Sa'i rite is around 2.7 kilometers.

Sa'i rite is linked to the struggle of Hajar, wife of [Prophet Ibrahim](https://theislamicinformation.com/stories/full-story-prophet-ibrahim-life-events/) (A.S), to remind people about the thirst of her Infant [Prophet Ismail](https://theislamicinformation.com/stories/full-story-prophet-ismail-life-events/)(A.S).

The ongoing expansion has increased the width of the Al-Mas'aa area to 40 meters instead of 20. In comparison, the overall allocated area of its structure and other services is about 125,000 square meters, as the Saudi Press Agency reported.
