During a recent work trip to China, I had the chance to visit several fast-food outlets to better understand their halal status.

One of the most frequently asked questions by Muslim travelers is whether **Subway in China is halal**. After personally visiting multiple locations, the answer is clear: **Subway in China is not halal-certified**.

Some Subway menu items in China include **pork-based ingredients**, and there is **no halal certification** displayed in stores. Staff at several branches confirmed the absence of halal meat options.

This finding aligns with a broader pattern in China where international food chains generally do not offer halal choices. Muslim travelers should **exercise caution when dining at major Western brands** and always ask staff about ingredients if unsure.

For those seeking **halal food** in China, it’s important to look for the phrase **“清真食品” (Qing Zhen Shi Pin)** — meaning "Halal Food" — which is typically displayed at eateries that are certified to serve food in accordance with Islamic dietary laws.

These certified restaurants are often operated by members of the Hui or Uyghur Muslim communities and are more commonly found in regions such as **Xi’an, Ningxia, and Xinjiang**, as well as certain neighborhoods in major cities.
