Lying is a sign of hypocrite.

In Islam, honesty is greatly valued. It is a mark of true faith. The question of whether lying about one’s salary is allowed is answered by Islamic principles and law.

## **Is It Permissible to Lie About Salary?**

### It is not allowed to lie about the salary.

Lying is not allowed in Islam, and this includes lying about one’s salary. Being truthful is a must. Lying is typically seen as a sign of dishonesty. The ones who lie will face punishment from Allah.

## **Evidence**

- The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) taught that a hypocrite is known for lying, breaking promises, and betraying trust. (**Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2631**). This hadith is also found in al-Bukhari and Islam and highlights the importance of being honest.
- Additionally, Ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said that lying is wrong, whether serious or in jest. **(Sunan Ibn Majah 46)**.

## Bottom Line

If sharing one’s salary could lead to harm, it’s okay to keep it private. One can refuse to share the exact amount politely or give a vague response. The goal is to avoid lying while safeguarding personal interests without going against Islamic values.

And Allah knows best.
