# Does Lip Tint Need to Be Removed for Wudu?

**Praise be to Allah.**

This is a very practical question many Muslim women face today. The basic rule of wudu is simple: **water must touch the skin** of the parts required in ablution.

The ruling regarding lip tint depends on whether the product forms a barrier that prevents water from reaching the lip skin.

## Should I Remove Lip Tint Before Wudu?

### **Ensure water reaches your lips — you don’t need to remove color unless it blocks water.**

- If your lip tint is a stain or a thin film that lets water soak through to the skin, your wudu is valid and you do **not** have to wipe off the color.
- If your product is a heavy, waxy, or “waterproof / transfer-proof” formula that beads up and prevents water from touching the lip skin, you should remove it before wudu.

## Evidence

### From Quran:

> “O you who believe! When you rise up for prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows…” *(Surah al-Mā’idah 5:6)*

## Bottom Line

Many modern scholars say light cosmetics that do not form an impermeable barrier do not break wudu. Heavy, sealing products do.

Keep it simple: test, be reasonable, and avoid unnecessary worry. May Allah make worship easy for you and accept your prayers.

**And Allah knows best.**
