A Libyan pilgrim, Amer al-Mahdi Mansour al-Gaddafi, has publicly confirmed that he is alive and well after widespread false reports on social media claimed he had died while performing Tawaf during Hajj 2025.

The rumours began circulating on platforms such as Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), alleging that Amer had collapsed and passed away while circling the Kaaba at Masjid al-Haram in Makkah. The posts quickly gained traction, leading to confusion and concern among viewers, especially those familiar with his prominent surname.

However, the claims were swiftly debunked by multiple fact-checkers, and Amer himself appeared in Arabic-language media, including an interview with Zehra, to put the rumours to rest. “I am alive and healthy,” he said calmly, dismissing the misinformation.

Amer also revealed that he had faced delays in boarding his Hajj flights, reportedly being denied boarding twice due to additional security checks associated with his last name — al-Gaddafi, a surname tied to Libya’s former ruler.
